In NIGHTREIGN, instead of making your own build, you choose from a preset of 8 different characters (2 more if you have the DLC). Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses. Unlike the base game, all characters have a passive, tactical and ultimate ability that can give them, and their team mates an advantage in combat. The passive works automatically and doesn't require an input. The skill usually has a short cooldown after use and has limited power. And the ultimate has a long cooldown and usually has a massive impact on activation. Each Nightfarer also has a favorite weapon, which changes the move set for that weapon when wielded by that character and also, they have a higher chance of finding one.
Wylder is a jack of all trades for melee weaponry; Wylder has high strength and dexterity while also having good vigor and endurance, only lacking really in mind, intelligence, faith, and arcane. Wylder is generally great with all types of melee weapons. With only some who have faith, intelligence or arcane scaling, having less of an effect.

Guardian boasts high endurance and vigor, enabling him to use greatshields effectively combat. However, this comes at the cost with his damaging stats being very low, resulting in very minimal scaling for weaponry, making him really only a support character.

Ironeye is well versed with bows, allowing for ranged combat rather than close combat. Good dexterity and decent arcane scaling, however not a lot of vigor scaling, playing ironeye requires skill as to not be hit by enemies. But with enough skill, Ironeye can easily be the best class in the game.

PASSIVE![]() Eagle Eye: Increases item discovery. | SKILL![]() Marking: Marks an enemy with a sweeping dagger lunge. Marked enemies get a damage negation debuff and have the marked effect applied. Duchess is a spell blade type of character, scaling high in dexterity, intelligence with some faith scaling. Duchess is able to wield various dexterous weapons while also being very adapt with sorceries. High mind but not a lot of vigor, recommended for more skilled players.

Raider is a pure strength and vigor build. Boasting high strength and poise, he can withstand enemy attacks while dishing out his own attacks. High vigor also allows for more tanking of attacks. Raider is primarily an offense character, so getting up and close with the enemy is highly recommended.

Executor scales high with dexterity and arcane, allowing for powerful status effect builds. Lacking in the vigor department, but his attack power potential makes up for that.

PASSIVE![]() Tenacity: gain an attack power boost after recovering from a status effect | SKILL![]() Suncatcher: Draw a cursed sword naturally equipped for the Executor. Timing blocks with the sword equipped will deflect the enemy’s attack. Recluse is a master of both sorceries and incantations. Her high mind, intelligence, and faith allow her to cast all sorts of spells. However, she is very weak in a sense of vigor. It is heavily advised to keep distance to the enemy and cast ranged attacks.

PASSIVE![]() Elemental Defense: any form of elemental damage delt can be absorbed as collected residue, replenishing FP while adding to the skill. | SKILL![]() Magic Cocktail: collected residues can be combined in a cocktail that can be cast to either deal massive damage or buff self and teammates. Revenant is a pure faith build with a unique twist; she has the ability to summon allies to assist in combat, ranging from a page, a pumpkin head, and a giant skeleton. Her faith is not to be looked over however, allowing her to use incantations as well as specifically buffs and heals. However, she suffers from low HP and no efficient way of FP regen, playing her is not recommended for newcomers.

Scholar is a pure arcane build with a unique playstyle. Instead of relying heavily on weapons, he uses consumables to attack and buff others, with these consumables becoming more powerful the more they are used. He suffers however from poor stat scaling from anything other than arcane, making very few weapons useful to him.

Undertaker is a strength; faith build that can play very aggressively with her consecutive attacks and abilities. She can get lost in trances that enhance her attack power and speed, while casting her art every time a teammate uses theirs.
