Post Apocalypto

What Is Post Apocalypto?

Post Apocalypto is the fourth, and at the time of writing, final album from Tenacious D. It was released in 2018 and tied into a 6 episode animated series released on Youtube. It is meant ot be a sort of sequel to The Pick of Destiny as in 2012, when asked about a sequel, they said theyfound a loophole with the Internet and animated shorts. That's the world we're looking to dive into, and not just for money, mainly for art. Many of the songs have weird naming conventions, like having all upper case writing or all loser case. The exception being marCH.
There is no clean version of the album unlike the second and third albums.

Critics Said

From Will Not Fade, Review By Joseph James
In short: Post-Apocalypto not a great album. Just as their other soundtrack, Pick of Destiny doesn’t compare well to the other albums, this one feels weak too. It is entirely in keeping with the Tenacious D brand, being puerile and budget, but doesn’t rock enough. Only the most loyal fans will appreciate it, and I doubt even they will revisit it after the initial listens. If you’re interested in it, at least watch the web-series so that you can hear the songs with context.
From The Daily Vault, Review By Pete Crigler
This feels like it was released only because it’s been so long since the last record and the D felt like they needed to appease the fans in some way. But unfortunately, this wasn’t the best way to do it. Post-Apocalypto is slight, disappointing, and possibly the biggest ripoff of the year. It’s an absolute travesty of a record and one that Kage and Jables should be extremely disappointed with, just as much as listeners are.

It surprises me more than anything else that these guys are still wanting to continue this band. There’s clearly nothing else left to be said that hasn’t already, but yet they persist on delivering the same trite time and time again. The level of irony found within this duo’s tenacious antics is probably the biggest laugh of all, but I get the feeling the joke is over their heads.
