The Pick of Destiny

What Is The Pick Of Destiny?

The Pick of Destiny is the second album by Tenacious D. It is an album that ties into the movie of the same name released in 2006, with many of the songs having plot significants as they are heard at major parts of the movie. Without the context of the movie it cane make some of the songs seem a little misplaced like Papagenu (He's My Sassafrass). The title track also appears on a single with a clean version.
There are 3 versions of this album, one with 15 tracks, one with 17 tracks and a clean version of the 15 track one which cuts out swearing and profanity. The list below is for the 17 track version.

I love the D but the inconsistency makes The Pick Of Destiny soundtrack maddening. Don’t let that stop you from picking it up though, and don’t be surprised if it leaves you wanting to hear the brilliant debut.
From AllMusic, Review By Stephen Thomas Erlewine
This may not be a concept album, but it's structured as a narrative, mirroring the plot of the movie. Unfortunately, this doesn't give The Pick of Destiny the weight or grandeur of a true concept album, because a lot of the music sounds as if it serves the movie, and doesn't stand tall when separated from the film.
From IGN, Review By Spence D.
The music on Pick Of Destiny stumbles only in that it is tied directly to the film of the same name. If you haven't seen the film or are wholly unfamiliar with the ways (and means) of Tenacious D, then you might be a little lost. Whether or not The D actually care if you're lost or not is anybody's guess.
